Madeline Johnnie Brooker McLeod, 95, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012 in Savannah. She was born October 28, 1916 in Hardeeville, SC and lived in Savannah most of her life. She attended Savannah Christian Church. Johnnie was a homemaker, an avid reader, and enjoyed crocheting and knitting for fun and for charity. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles W. Byrd, second husband, John W. McLeod, Jr., and her son, Charles W. Byrd, Jr.
Surviving are two sons, Duane F. Byrd, of Atlanta, William B. McLeod Kimberly McLeod, of Ashburn, VA, stepson, John W. McLeod, III Gladys McLeod, of St. Augustine, FL, and stepdaughter, Beverly Hansen Oscar Hansen, of Aiken, SC, and daughter-in-law, Brenda F. Byrd, of Statesboro, GA. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff and employees of John Wesley Villas for their loving care.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2012 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Graveside Service will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.
